Mini-Track:  Connecting the Americas

Connecting the Americas is an exciting new track for IS/IT research that involves the understanding and sharing of theoretical and practical IS/IT issues among researchers in the Americas (North, South, Central America and the Caribbean Region).  As our global community continues to shrink, it is important to examine all aspects of research that can potentially connect different countries and cultures.  For a variety of reasons this connection has been slow to develop across the Americas.  We believe this mini-track has potential for developing many valuable new streams of IS/IT research and bridging the cultural, sociological and economic boundaries that often exist between our Northern and Southern neighbors.

Research submitted to this track is expected, but not required, to involve researchers from two or more countries in the Americas.  We invite any collaborative IS/IT research paper that explores one or more of the following topics and/or issues:

  1. Collaborative IS/IT Education and/or IS/IT-enabled education in the Americas;
  2. The role of IS/IT in commerce within the Americas;
  3. Global IS/IT and related trade issues in the Americas;
  4. Cross-cultural IS/IT research in the Americas;
  5. Challenges of performing collaborative IS/IT research in the Americas;
  6. Government policies concerning IS/IT in the Americas (e.g., NAFTA);
  7. Issues of joint IS/IT curriculum among educational institutions in the Americas;
  8. Electronic Communication issues within the Americas;
  9. Research exploring the use of IT to reduce language barriers in the Americas;
  10. The development of IS/IT infrastructure in the Americas;
  11. Economic impacts of IS/IT on social development in the Americas; and
  12. Knowledge management and sharing across the Americas.
