Remote Access

Access your email

Access email from your computer

You can install the Groupwise Client email software on your personal computer, which is exactly the same as the client you use on your work PC. Just contact 565-3049 to request the installation CD. You can take the CD home to install the software and return it when you've completed the installation.

Access email from the web

To access your Groupwise email account from any web browser, simply type in the address of http://gww.unt.edu and you can connect to your email from anywhere in the world!


Access your network files

You can access your network files (for example, all your files stored on your H: drive) from any web browser by typing ing the address of http://netstorage.coba.unt.edu. This website will provide instructions for connecting to your files from both a web browser or via a different client called "NetDrive".


Connect to your PC

You can connect to your PC from any other PC, inluding PC's that are outside campus using a product called VNC. This software is installed on your computer at work, so all you have to do is configure it to be connected to.

Configure VNC on your work PC

  1. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > VNC > Install VNC Service
  2. Create a password. This is the password you will use when connecting from another computer
  3. Find out what your computer name is by right-clicking My Computer from the desktop and select Properties. Click the Computer Name tab and find your computer name.

Connect to your computer

From a web-based client

  1. Open a web browser
  2. Type in "http://computername.coba.unt.edu:5800" in the address bar
  3. If your browser doesn't have the Java Client installed, you may have to download it. Otherwise, it should appear with a login box to enter the password that you set up initially.

From the VNC client

  1. Go to the VNC website and download the personal VNC client. You will need the VNC Viewer to connect to your work PC.
  2. Install the software and run the VNC Viewer. Type in computername.coba.unt.edu:5900 to connect to your PC.
