FINANCE INTERNSHIP PROCEDURES
- Students interested in academic credit for a Finance Internship must complete a file at the UNT Office of Cooperative Education, Suite 204, Chilton
hall (940.565-2715). This includes completing a Request for Approval to Register in an Internship Course (RARIC) and securing the appropriate
Cooperative Education Statement contained on the RARIC.
- The Finance Area of the Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law has an Internship Director who coordinates all Finance Internships
and is the Faculty Supervisor of record for all Finance Internships.
- After completing Step 1 above, the student must secure approval of the RARIC from the Internship Director first. Then the student must obtain
approval of the Chair of the Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law. After all appropriate approvals are secured, the student submits
the RARIC to the COBA Undergraduate Academic Office (BA 123) to obtain the Internship Director's section number, which is needed to register
in FINA 4800. Academic credit for a Finance Internship cannot be obtained without successful registration and completion of FINA 4800.
- Approval of a FINA 4800 registration is based on the likelihood that the internship is related to the student's major, that the student will significantly
benefit from the internship experience through the acquisition of productive experience beyond the classroom, and the employer will actively direct
and mentor the student in his or her work. All internships are expected to occur over the period of a single semester except in the summer. All
summer interns will register for Summer I. At the end of that five-week session, students will receive an "Incomplete." At the end of Summer II, the
grade will be changed to "Pass" if the internship has been successfully completed.
An internship is not simply a credit-for-work program. Typically the student is not allowed to use current employment as the internship. The only way
this is approved is if the student can verify that he/she is beginning a new position at the time the internship would begin. Preference in approval is given
to paid internships, approval of non-paid internships is rare.
