Dr. Insley specializes in several areas of business and organizational communication. He teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate business communication, organizational behavior, and management concepts courses in the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas.

Dr. Insley's research efforts have focused on business personnel's desired communication skill levels and how post-secondary educational institutions can provide the appropriate related communication skills training. In addition, he is focusing efforts on the impact of electronic communication technology on communication instruction and the communication process. Sample publications include Aligning Business Communication Skills Curriculum to Meet IS Managers' Expectations of IS Graduates, Rethinking the Effects of Small Business Failure, and Writing Performance and Moral Reasoning in Business Education.

Dr. Insley serves as UNT's coordinator for undergraduate business communication courses in the College of Business Administration. He is also the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) representative for the College of Business Administration and is the editor of the Department of Management's online newsletter. In addition, he routinely conducts communication skills workshops for student organizations on campus as well as for organizations in the workplace.
