Currently the Chair of the Department of Management, Dr. Johnson's teaching field includes graduate and undergraduate courses in Organizational Behavior and Management Concepts. He has received departmental and university teaching awards while providing instruction for a variety of courses.

Dr. Johnson is the author of Management, published by Dame Publishers of Houston, Texas and Building A Professional Life, published by Delmar Publishers of New York, NY. These books are supported by a research record consisting of articles in both academic and practitioner journals. Research questions involving environmental scanning, work teams, and occupationally injured employee have appeared in such journals as Business Communication, Small Business Management, Regional Business Review, The Journal of Business Ethics, and Business Horizons.

Dr. Johnson's consulting and practitioner experience involve metroplex and national organizations such as Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Board, General Electric Credit Corp. KVIL-Radio, Texas Utilities, Sally Beauty Supply, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and Mrs Baird Inc. These consulting assignments involve activities from training supervisors to redesigning organizational structure and rewards. Johnson adds to his consulting and practitioner activities by serving the Department of Management as Vice-chair.

Finally, Dr. Johnson is active in service to UNT and the community. He maintains multiple committee appointments at the Department, College and University levels. His peers elected him twice to serve as the Chair of the Faculty Senate, the University's faculty governance body. Service with the community includes significant leadership responsibilities with multiple service agencies.
