Lou Ponthieu teaches Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management for UNT's Department of Management, College of Business Administration. He also directs the University of North Texas Small Business Institute (SBI) which consults with and trains the owners and employees of more than 100 small to medium-size enterprises each year on matters of venture start-up and growth, small business management, customer service, product development, sales promotion, and a wide variety of other new venture and small business management topics.

In addition to his instructional activities, Lou researches, writes, and speaks on numerous topics in his area of expertise. A Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellow, Lou is faculty sponsor of the UNT's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) group and the Association of North Texas Entrepreneurs (ANTE).

Lou has spent more than half of his 30 year career as a successful small business owner having owned and operated more than a dozen profitable business ventures. A native Texan, Lou earned the Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas, and has taught at Texas Tech University, Pepperdine University, and the University of Northern Colorado.
