Welcome to our first issue of MANAGEMENT MOMENTUM. We thank Dr. Dick White and
Dr. Lou Ponthieu for coming up with the appropriate name for this publication. We are definitely
on the move. This department newsletter will serve as a forum for issues surrounding the
Management team and all the exciting activities in which we are involved. Our Editor, Dr.
Barbara Hassell, has done an exceptional job putting the first issue together with Patty Havelka
and Tracey Thompson doing the layout. It has been a team effort to produce this for you, and I'm
proud to say the hero is the team.
The "Chair's Nest" gives me the opportunity to update you on the latest news about the
management team. I have much to share with you. For now, let me tell you what has happened
since I arrived here as the new Chair in July, 1992. In short, we have restructured and
reengineered ourselves to include (1) an innovative evaluation policy for faculty that makes use of
different career tracks, (2) a revised charter, (3) an updated undergraduate curriculum that will be
implemented this fall, (4) a completely revamped Ph.D. program, (5) nearly a completely new
staff, (6) a new Business Development Alliance with industry, (7) an expanded Small Business
Institute, (8) a new Advisory/ Development Board, and (9) a remodeled office complex. All these
changes have challenged the team to deliver the best education for our students and the best
working environment for our team members.
Our efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we appreciate Dean Singleton's support. I hope
you have the chance to read his letter. I'll have much more to say about all these changes in the
coming issues. For now, I am pleased to bring you this first issue and look forward to your help in
securing our future. I hope you will visit us soon. Until then, see you in the next Chair's Nest.
