Center Receives Federal Grant
The Center for NAFTA Studies was awarded a Business and International Education grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The $158,000 grant is for two years beginning July 1, 2003. The University will match the amount. The Center will use the funds to advance the study of NAFTA throughout the business curriculum and to develop professional outreach programs to companies in the metroplex.

Director Testifies Before Congressional Committee
The Director of the Center testified before the Subcommittee on Select Education Hearing on International Programs in Higher Education and Questions of Bias in the Rayburn House Office Building on June 19, 2003. The bias at issue in the Hearing was anti-Americanism in some programs funded by Title VI International Education Programs. Mr. Roden appeared at the invitation of the Honorable Ruben Hinojosa, ranking minority member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Mr. Roden noted that receiving a Business and International Education (BIE) grant had an impact on UNT's College of Business Administration that most likely parallels initial grants at other institutions (the BIE grant was COBA's first). He noted that such a grant brings with it transparency, accountability, visibility, and legitimacy to launch initiatives to benefit students, faculty, and the many stakeholders in the College of Business.
