Ken & Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship

The Department of Management awards the Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship to a student who has demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities. The applicant must meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business Administration in effect at the time of the award and must be enrolled in the COBA as a full-time student in Management. Preference will be given to students with junior standing or higher. Students who apply for this scholarship must have successfully owned and operated some form of part-time or full-time enterprise or have been employed in a direct marketing or sales capacity in outside sales.

Juan Arenas

Juan Arenas is originally friom Sugar Land, TX. Having just completed his first Master's in Music at UNT, Juan has decided to learn about the more practical side of the business by starting an MBA with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. Because of the innovative class given by the Murphy Entreprise Center in Arts Entrepreneurship, Arenas has learned invaluable, practical information which, in turn, has directly affected the growth of his own business, Global Percussion, Inc. Also, because of the Murphy Enterprise Center, Juan was asked to be a guest lecturer at the 2005 Entrepreneur Expo in Fort Worth. He would like to thank Ken Murphy, Prof. Resnik, Dr. Shrader, and Joan Ackerson for their continuous support and advice. Receiving this scholarship does not only take care of the cost of this wonderful education, it also helps to make his ultimate vision a reality.
