BBA Degree Requirements

University Core Requirements (47 Hours)

English Composition and Rhetoric (6 hours)

  • ENGL 1310 College Writing I
    • Minimum grade of "C" required
  • ENGL 2700 Technical Writing or ENGL 1320 College Writing II
    • Minimum grade of "C" required

Mathematics (3 hours)

  • College Algebra or higher
    • Best selection for business students: MATH 1400* or MATH 1190*

Natural Science (8 hours)

  • Any two natural science courses (must contain labs)

Visual and Performing Arts (3 hours)

United States History (6 hours)

  • HIST 2610 U.S. History to 1865
  • HIST 2620 U.S. History from 1865

Political Science (6 hours)

  • PSCI 1050 or PSCI 1060 U.S. Government

Social and Behavioral Science (3 hours)

  • One course from the approved list

Pre-Business/Lower Level Business Foundation Requirements (17-26 Hours)

Economics (6 hours)

  • ECON 1100* Microeconomics
    • Minimum grade of "C" required
  • ECON 1110* Macroeconomics
    • Minimum grade of "C" required

Communications (3 hours)

Mathematics (3 hours)

  • MATH 1400* College Math with Calculus or MATH 1190* Business Calculus
    • Minimum grade of "C" required
Math Department Policy: MATH 1100 (College Algebra) must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher to enroll in MATH 1190 or 1400. Students with a grade of "D" in MATH 1100 will have to retake the course prior to enrolling in MATH 1190 or 1400.

Free Electives

  • Number of required free elective hours will vary depending on course selection and/or placement. Students must complete a minimum of 127 hours for degree.

Introduction to Computers (3 hours)

    • Minimum grade of "C" required

Accounting (6 hours)

  • ACCT 2010 Principles of Accounting I (Financial Accounting)
    • Minimum grade of "C" required
  • ACCT 2020 Principles of Accounting II (Managerial Accounting)
    • Minimum grade of "C" required

Accounting Duplication Policy: Accounting courses may not be taken more than two times. Also, students may not retake an accounting course that is a prerequisite for an accounting course they have already completed with a grade of "C" or higher.

Data Analysis with Spreadsheets (3 hours)

  • DSCI 2710
    • Minimum grade of "C" required

IMPORTANT NOTE: Courses in blue must be completed with a "C" or higher, a 2.7 UNT GPA, and a minimum of 45 semester hours must be completed before enrolling in any upper level business courses and/or filing for a degree plan. Upper level business courses are those that are numbered 3XXX or 4XXX and have one of the following prefixes: ACCT, BUSI, BCIS, BLAW, FINA, RMIN, MGMT, DSCI, MKTG, REAL, or LSCM.

*Courses that will fulfill University and College requirements. Courses used to fulfill both University and College requirements will increase number of required free electives.

Business Foundation Requirements (24 Hours)

These courses must be completed at the JR/SR level

  • Business Communications: MGMT 3330, MKTG 3010 or BCIS 3615
  • BLAW 3430: Legal and Ethical Environment of Business
  • BCIS 3610: Basic Information Systems
  • MKTG 3650: Foundations of Marketing Practice
  • DSCI 3710: Business Statistical Analysis Using Spreadsheets
  • FINA 3770: Finance
  • MGMT 3720: Organizational Behavior
  • BUSI 4940: Business Policy
    • Must be taken during the student's graduating semester

All foundation courses listed above BUSI 4940 must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher before enrolling in BUSI 4940.
