COBA Scholarship descriptions and requirements

Below you will find each departments scholarship descriptions, eligibility requirements and application requirements. Please read and familiarize yourself with the requirements below before applying for any scholarships.

Students should be aware that if they receive a scholarship they will be required to write thank you notes to the awarding donor.

Unofficial transcripts can be downloaded from your my.unt.edu account.

COBA General Scholarships - Due by 3-12-08, 5pm

College of Business General Scholarships are competitively awarded by the College's General Scholarship Committee to Business Majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Awards are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. To be eligible for a scholarship you must be a full-time student in the Fall 2008 semester.

Only complete applications will be considered. You may include a brief bio of your accomplishments and personal successes and/or need for a scholarship. These may be uploaded on the online scholarship form. Please be aware that payment authorization will be made upon proof of enrollment.

Accounting Department Scholarships - Due 2-22-08, 5pm

Scholarships and excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by the Department of Accounting Scholarship Committee to Accounting majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made. A full-time student is defined as an undergraduate student taking a minimum of 12 academic hours or a graduate student taking a minimum of 9 academic hours in the long semesters. The summer term for undergraduate counts as a semester only if you take 4 to 6 hours both semesters and for a graduate student, 6 hours both semesters.

IF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS, IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

  1. A complete scholarship application--complete the online application linked below.
  2. A complete set of unofficial transcripts showing all academic work to date, including transfer work. You can obtain an unofficial transcript by going to MY.UNT.EDU and upload a copy on the online form.
  3. A double-spaced one-page typed sheet outlining your goals for the future and your areas of interest in the accounting profession. You may also include a brief bio of your accomplishments and personal successes. If you are also asking for a scholarship for financial need, please give a brief description of why you qualify for financial assistance. These may be uploaded on the online scholarship form.
  4. A current resume which may be uploaded on the online scholarship form.

Other Accounting Scholarship Opportunities

Philp Vogel Memorial Scholarship Program

The Dallas CPA Society and Philip Vogel and Company, P.C. established a scholarship program in memory of Philip Vogel, CPA. The purpose of the program is to provide scholarship assistance to junior, senior and graduate accounting students who plan to become Certified Public Accountants and enter the accounting profession. Applications are now available in the Department of Accounting. Please come to College of Business Administration Room 215 to pick up an application. Application deadline is May 2, 2008.

National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter Scholarship

NABA's Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter is pleased to announce that it will award scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year to current high school seniors, undergraduate students, and student enrolled in a five-year accounting program. Applications are now available in the Department of Accounting, BUSI 215. The application deadline is March 14, 2008.

Dallas Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

The Dallas Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners will be presenting two scholarships of $500 each this spring for students majoring in either accounting or criminal justice. Applications are available in the Department of Accounting, BUSI 215. The application deadline is March 24, 2008.

HCF – Hispanic College Fund

The Associate of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) offers scholarships to students pursuing studies in accounting, finance, information technology, and related fields. For more information about ALPFA and their scholarship opportunities visit www.hispanicfund.org. Application deadline is March 15, 2008.

AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Accountemps are delighted to announce the 2008 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship Award. For details on eligibility requirements and to download an application, please visit www.accountemps.com. Application deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

FIREL Department Scholarships - Due 3-24-08, 5pm

The Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law offers a variety of competitive scholarships for students majoring in finance, insurance and real estate who have completed at least one or more semesters at UNT and have a good academic record. Award amounts vary based on available funding.

FIREL Scholarships are awarded for the academic year with funds disbursed in the fall and spring terms. Summer awards are made separately.

Upcoming application deadlines are as follows:

Academic year 2008-2009 - March 24, 2008, 5:00 p.m.

I. ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to receive a scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements based on their classification.

  1. UNDERGRADUATE
    1. Be a full time student
    2. Have a major in either Finance, Insurance, or Real Estate (A degree plan should be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these fields.)
    3. Have completed at least 24 credit hours at UNT
    4. Have taken and passed basic principles course in major field (FINA 3770, INSU 2500, or REAL 2100)
    5. Have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA
  2. GRADUATE
    1. Be a full time student
    2. Have a major in either Finance, Insurance, or Real Estate (A degree plan should be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these fields.)
    3. Have completed at least 12 credit hours at UNT
    4. Have completed 6 graduate credit hours in Finance (EXCLUDING DEFICIENCY CLASSES)
    5. Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA

Real Estate

TAAEF/Larry Niemann Academic Scholarship

Up to five $1,000 merit-based academic scholarships are available from the Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation (TAAEF) for the Fall 2008 semester to students enrolled in a Residential Property Management course at the University of North Texas. The application deadline is March 1stApplication and all supporting materials should be sent to TAA Education Foundation in Austin.

The Jonetta Vise/ AATC Academic Scholarship

The Jonetta Vise/ AATC academic scholarship is established in honor of Jonetta Vise, former AATC Director of Education to recognize her love of and commitment to education efforts on behalf of the Texas rental housing industry. This $1,000 merit-based academic scholarship is available through the Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation (TAAEF)/Larry Niemann Scholarship Program for the Fall 2008 semester to students enrolled in a Residential Property Management course at the University of North Texas. While available through TAAEF, this scholarship is in addition to those funded directly by TAAEF. The application deadline is March 1st. Application and all supporting materials should be sent to TAA Education Foundation in Austin.

Law

No specific Law scholarships are available for students. We offer law courses as a support field. For information on Pre-Law curriculum, advising or other related information, contact the Department of Political Science.

ITDS Department Scholarships - Due by 3-10-08

Scholarships and academic excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by the ITDS Department Scholarship Committee on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Historically, there have been more awards available for undergraduate students than for masters or doctoral students. Nevertheless, all qualifying students are encouraged to apply.

Upcoming application deadlines are as follows:

Who is eligible?

  • All BCIS, DSCI, DECT and INFT majors.
  • Juniors, seniors, or graduate students; although, some awards may be available for graduating Seniors as well.
  • BCIS majors must have completed BCIS 3620 or BCIS 3630 by end of previous Fall semester.

How do I apply?

  1. Complete the online ITDS Dept. Scholarship Application Form linked below or the paper form available on the ITDS Department website or in the ITDS Office.
  2. Your UNT transcript will be checked by the ITDS Department. You do not have to request it from the registrar office.

Management Department Scholarships - Due by 3-12-08 - EXTENDED

If you want to be considered for scholarships awarded by the Department of Management, please complete the following items:

  • 1. Select a scholarship of interest and make sure that all criteria are or will be met.
  • 2. Complete the Scholarships Application Form below.
  • 3. Submit a statement which describes your career goals, explains how the scholarship will help you achieve the goals, and provides any additional information related to the scholarship.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be processed. To maintain full-time status at UNT, an undergraduate (graduate) student must enroll for at least 12 (9) semester hours. Kindly e -mail (Richard.White@unt.edu) or call (940-565-3036) the Scholarship Committee Chair if you have any questions.

Matt Davis College Fund Landscaping Scholarship

The Murphy Enterprise Center in the Department of Management awards the Matt Davis College Fund Landscaping Scholarship to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) maintain at least a 3.25 GPA (If an applicant meeting the GPA requirement is not available at the time of the award, an otherwise qualified applicant with a minimum 3.0 GPA will be selected); and (4) major in Entrepreneurship. In the event that no applicant possesses these characteristics, students majoring in Business Management at the University will be eligible for consideration.

Department of Management Scholarship

Eligible students must have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at the University of North Texas. Applicants must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted. Finally, applicants must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements and have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science). Eligible graduate students must have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA degree with a major in Management at UNT, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and agree to maintain full-time enrollment during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.

Melanie Dutton Scholarship

The Melanie Dutton Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students who (1) have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science); (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) maintain a GPA of at least 2.7 (for undergraduates) or 3.0 (graduates); and (4) speak a language other than English fluently. In addition to the general application, the applicant must submit a one-page essay explaining what his (her) second language is and the role it plays in conducting business.

Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship

The Department of Management awards the Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship to eligible students majoring in the Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science) professional field. Applicants must be full-time students and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted. Eligible students have completed 60 semester hours, have a cumulative GPA of 3.00, and are residents of the United States. Applicants must also express intent to enter the manufacturing industry, preferably in Texas but certainly in the United States. A student who is awarded the Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship for the junior year is eligible to have the scholarship renewed for the senior year provided that s/he continues to meet the eligibility criteria.

Liz and Pete Gunter Scholarship

The Murphy Enterprise Center in the Department of Management awards the Liz and Pete Gunter Scholarship to individuals who are enrolled at UNT part-time or full-time and interested in entrepreneurship. In addition to the general application, the applicant must submit a one-page essay explaining why he (she) is the ideal candidate for the scholarship, giving examples of entrepreneurial initiatives, and describing what his (her) entrepreneurial goals are. Preference will be given to undergraduate students.

ISM-Dallas Leonard Ingram Memorial Scholarship

The ISM-Dallas Leonard Ingram Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business Administration in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) must be a registered student in both semesters of the academic year during which the scholarship is granted; (4) must be a student member of ISM-Dallas majoring in a purchasing/supply management related field; (5) indicate financial necessity; (6) maintain a 3.0 GPA; and (7) must be an in-state student. (Note: Applicants meeting all but the 3.0 GPA requirements may still be considered.)

Littlefield Memorial Scholarship

Eligible students must (1) have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at the University of North Texas; (2) have a cumulative GPA of 3.0; (3) agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted; and (4) file an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science). Eligible graduate students must (1) have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA degree with a major in Management at UNT; (2) have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and (3) agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.

Management Advisory Board Scholarship

Eligible students must have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at the University of North Texas. Applicants must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted. Finally, applicants must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements and have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science). Eligible graduate students must have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA degree with a major in Management at UNT, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.

Morris D. and Evelyn B. Misso Scholarship

The Morris D. and Evelyn B. Misso Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in the degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT; and (4) demonstrate evidence of sound moral character.

Maureen F. Moore Scholarship

The Maureen F. Moore Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) are enrolled full time as an undergraduate; (2) have filed a degree plan for OB HR, or for sophomores, intent to study HR; (3) possess a minimum 3.25 grade point average; and (4) can demonstrate financial need.

Murphy Enterprise Center Scholarship

The Murphy Enterprise Center in the Department of Management awards the Murphy Enterprise Center Scholarship to individuals who are enrolled at UNT part-time or full-time and interested in entrepreneurship. Preference will be given to undergraduate students.

Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship

The Department of Management awards the Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship to a student who has demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities. The applicant must meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business Administration (COBA) in effect at the time of the award and must be enrolled in the COBA as a full-time student in Management, maintaining an overall GPA of 2.0 and a COBA GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to students with junior standing or higher. Students who apply for this scholarship must have successfully owned and operated some form of part-time or full-time enterprise or have been employed in a direct marketing or sales capacity in outside sales. (Note: It is the student’s responsibility to provide acceptable documentation of the entrepreneurial requirements. Please refer to the last page of the application form for details.)

William D. and Marilyn B. Oates Scholarship

The William D. and Julie Marilyn Oates Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) possess the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in the College of Business Administration in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; and (3) maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Pinnacle Graphics Entrepreneur Development Scholarship

The Pinnacle Graphics Entrepreneur Development Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT; (4) maintain a 3.0 GPA; (5) maintain a work schedule of at least 15 hours per week; and (6) belong to at least one organization sanctioned by the Student Activities and Organization Office at UNT.

Elvis and Joyce Stephens Scholarship

The Elvis and Joyce Stephens Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT; (4) major in Organizational Behavior/Human Resources Management or any other Management program; (5) are first in family to attend college, i.e., parents and siblings did not attend college; (6) demonstrate financial need. In the event no applicant meets the criterion set forth in (5) above, the remaining criteria will be used.

Christina M. Nobrega Memorial Scholarship

Eligible students must (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management; (2) be classified as a junior, senior or graduate student in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management; (3) be enrolled as a student in the Department of Management at the University; (4) be students working full or part-time, and who demonstrate financial need will be given preference; and (5) submit an essay of at least 600 words which describes their career goals and how this award will help them achieve them.

Joseph W. & Betty A. Roy Business Scholarship

Eligible students must (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management; (2) maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at the University.

The Byron Codrington - Raga Golf Scholarship - MEC

To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:
a. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of any award;
b. Maintain full-time enrollment at the University, unless the applicant has fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in his/her degree program;
c. Maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
d. Enroll as a full-time student in the College of Business at the University; in the event no applicant possesses these characteristics, then students enrolling full-time in the University will be eligible for consideration.

Marketing & Logistics Scholarships - Due by 3-10-08

Application Information

Graduate and Undergraduate Marketing & Logistics students are encouraged to apply!

DEADLINE: Application Due February 28, 2008

Scholarships and excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by a Scholarship Committee on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need.

I. ELIGIBILITY

To be qualified to receive a scholarship, the successful contender will have meet the following requirements based on guidelines established for their classification:

A. UNDERGRADUATE

  1. Must declare Marketing or Logistics as their major unless specific scholarship does not require this action. (A degree plan should already be in place with COBA’s undergraduate advising office.)
  2. Must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements
  3. Be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made. A full-time student is defined as a student taking a minimum of 12 academic hours.
  4. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  5. Already completed and passed MKTG 3650, LSCM 3960 or equivalent.
  6. Must have completed at least 15 hours of college course work at UNT.

B. GRADUATE

  1. Must declare Marketing or Logistics as their major unless specific scholarship does not require this action (A degree plan must be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these areas.)
  2. Be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made.
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  4. Completed 6 graduate credit hours in MKTG and/or LSCM.

II. HOW DO I APPLY? Complete the online scholarship application linked below. (Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.)

  1. A complete set of transcripts (unofficial is okay) showing all academic work to date, including transfer work.
  2. A one-page letter of application including, but not limited to, career goals and how you are preparing for your chosen career.
  3. A complete typed resume including work experience, activities, and educational backgroundincluding two (2) academic and two (2) non-academic references, including name and all relevant contact information. Do not submit letters with the initial application.
  4. OPTIONAL: A typed personal statement or statement of financial need.

III. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT:

  1. Payment authorization will be made only after the scholarship winner presents proof of enrollment.
  2. Your actual course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the above requirements throughout the semester, the scholarship may be revoked.
  3. Selected students are required to attend the Scholarship Recognition Awards program of the Department of Marketing and Logistics.
